At Body and Soul Candle we make our concrete vessels. They can be used for a variety of things but we use them for candles and planters. Making concrete vessels is a creative and stylish way to display your candles, planters or other home decor items. Here's a short guide to help you create your own unique vessels.

First, you'll need to gather your supplies – See materials needed. The great thing about this project is you can use whatever you have on hand for the molds, or you can purchase molds. Get creative with different shapes and sizes.
Materials Needed:
Concrete Mix: You can find this at hardware or craft stores.
Mold: Choose a mold shape and size for your vessel (e.g., cylindrical, square, geometric, or custom).
Release Agent: To prevent the concrete from sticking to the mold. (optional depending on mold).
Mixing Container and Stir Stick
Water
Sandpaper (for finishing bottom)
Sealant (interior and exterior)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Mold:
Apply a release agent to the interior of your mold to prevent the concrete from sticking (optional).
2. Mix the Concrete:
Follow the instructions on your concrete mix packaging to create a pancake-like consistency.
Mix the concrete thoroughly in a separate container.
3. Pour the Concrete:
Pour the mixed concrete into the mold, filling it to the desired height.
Tap the mold gently to make sure concrete moves down the mold.
5. Remove Air Bubbles:
Tap the mold again to remove any additional air bubbles.
6. Demold the Vessel:
Carefully remove the concrete vessel from the mold. Usually one hour after pour.
Sand the bottom to smooth out any rough edges.
7. Seal the Interior and/or Exterior:
Let the concrete cure for the recommended time (usually 24 hours).
Seal the interior with a water-based polyurethane or concrete sealant to prevent wax leakage.
Seal the exterior with a clear gloss sealant for a finished look.
The beauty of making your own concrete candle holders is that each one will be unique. You can experiment with different mold shapes, concrete color tints, or even adding decorative elements like stones or dried flowers. Have fun with it and make something that fits your personal style.
